5 Days to go to the big race

A week today I will be racing in my first 5 day stage race on the Mountain Bike. Yes I am a little nervous and I am, as always, thinking I should have trained more.

I did a little bit of training for the big race. It started with a MTB crit under the Westgate Bridge where I came 1st in C grade.

Then after feeling rather confident I entered B grade the following week and game last but I didn’t feel too bad as I did have heavy legs from training and my head light decided not to work within minutes of me lining up for the start.

I also competed in a 50km race in the Mt Wombat State forest. This was an awesome race with some tough competition from the guys at Horsham Colour. I came 21st out of 182 riders.

Below are some photos from the event.

I then went onto compete in an eight hour race with Bill Woolmore at Lystefield. This race was cut short due to the extreme weather. It was so cold that I refused to stop riding as I managed to keep warmer while riding. So Bill and I did the last lap together. We didn’t place well but it was great training for the two of us.

With my bike packed and legs waxed I am almost ready to race.
