Kona 24hr MTB Enduro 2006

The aim of the race is to complete as many laps of the 18.3 Km course in 24 Hrs. With the 3 man team of Chris Neenan, Clint Wilson and Tim Harman this equates to approx 8 hrs each including at least 2 night laps in total darkness. The race kicked of at 12 noon on Saturday. Tim Harman volunteered to do the first lap and got the team of to a slow start after puncturing his rear tyre. By the end of the first lap we were down by about 15 mins. Over the course of the next 6 hrs we would climb up to about 8th position in the Open Threesomes category. During the night we did not stop and by daybreak had moved up to fifth position which we were able to hold until the finish at 12 Noon on Sunday. The course itself was exactly the same as the last year except for the dust factor. After so long without rain the course was a dusty rock garden which made for some challenging riding especially at night. One section of the course was aptly named 'The Rocky Horror Show'After last year we all said 'never again' but we have now survived 2 Kona's. Lets wait and see about next years race.
